First Nations FITX YOUTH

WE ARE FIGHTERFITX YOUTH

Introduction for the First Nations Youth FighterFITX Project
"Empowering First Nations Youth Through Health, Wellness, and Cultural
Connection"

Partner with us to create a healthier future for Indigenous youth and
showcase their stories on a global platform.

My name is Ryan Omeasoo, and I am living proof that transformation is
possible, no matter how dark or impossible life may seem. My story
begins with adversity—a life shadowed by heroin addiction,
incarceration, and gang involvement. These struggles led me down a
path of pain and disconnection, but they also became the foundation
for my mission: to inspire change in First Nations communities across
Canada, the United States, and beyond.

Today, I stand before you as a former nominee for the BC Aboriginal
Achievement Award and a proud participant in Bear’s Lair TV, where I
shared my vision to empower personal training clients in fitness
martial arts and Indigenous youth and their communities. I’ve built
FighterFITX not just as a fitness program but as a tool for healing,
self-discipline, and cultural reconnection. Fitness saved my life, and
it can save others too—it teaches us to rise after every fall, to
channel pain into strength, and to forge resilience through unity.

This mission is more urgent than ever. First Nations communities
continue to face devastating challenges, including alarmingly high
suicide rates, substance abuse, and youth involvement in gang
activity. According to Health Canada, suicide rates among First
Nations youth are 5 to 7 times higher than those of their
non-Indigenous peers. In the United States, similar patterns are
observed, with Indigenous communities experiencing 1.6 times the
national rate of substance use disorders. These statistics represent
lives lost, families shattered, and futures stolen.

But it doesn’t have to stay this way. Together, we have the power to
rewrite this narrative.

FighterFITX is more than a fitness program—it is a movement for
change. It fosters physical, mental, and emotional well-being while
embracing the strength and wisdom of our Indigenous cultures. With the
right partnerships, we can create a brighter future. Corporations,
government bodies, and sponsors like Nike and financial institutions
have an opportunity to make a profound impact. Together, we can fund
initiatives, create safe spaces, and even develop a groundbreaking
television series with APTN to reach millions (for example). This
project will celebrate resilience, foster hope, and showcase the
transformative journeys of our youth.

This isn’t just about fitness—it’s about healing intergenerational
wounds, building bridges, and empowering First Nations youth to take
pride in their identity and reclaim their future. I invite you to join
us on this journey. Together, we can create a ripple effect of
positivity, strength, and cultural revival in First Nations
communities across the world. Let’s inspire a generation to rise
stronger than ever.

Will you take the first step with us?

The Vision

Indigenous communities across Canada, the U.S., and beyond face
ongoing challenges rooted in intergenerational trauma, leading to
alarming rates of youth suicide, substance abuse, and gang
involvement. Suicide among First Nations youth aged 15-24 is 5 to 6
times higher than that of the general population, with Inuit youth
experiencing rates 11 times higher. Substance abuse and gang
affiliation further complicate this crisis, with many youths turning
to these outlets in the absence of accessible mental health care and
cultural support systems.

Despite these challenges, Indigenous communities demonstrate
extraordinary resilience. Through cultural continuity, community-led
initiatives, and holistic interventions, significant progress can be
made in healing and uplifting our youth. This project—FighterFITX
TV—aims to amplify that progress through health, wellness, and
cultural empowerment programming.

Introducing FighterFITX TV: Empowering First Nations Youth

FighterFITX TV, envisioned as a partnership with APTN and key
sponsors, is an initiative designed to bring fitness, mental health
support, and cultural pride into First Nations homes. Building on my
experience with Bear’s Lair TV and grassroots community work, the
program will provide transformative fitness and wellness content
tailored to Indigenous communities, combining physical activity with
mental resilience strategies and cultural teachings.

________________________________

Why This Matters

Suicide Rates: Suicide is the leading cause of death among Indigenous
youth, with rates that demand urgent attention.
Substance Abuse and Gang Activity: First Nations communities
experience higher rates of substance use and gang involvement due to
systemic inequities and a lack of accessible resources.
Cultural Connection as a Solution: Research highlights that
communities that promote cultural continuity, language preservation,
and self-determination see reduced youth suicide rates and healthier
outcomes.

Together, with sponsors like Nike, government bodies, and
corporations, we can inspire change by providing resources and
opportunities for youth to thrive.

Program Goals

Fitness Empowerment: Deliver accessible fitness programs to promote
physical and mental well-being.
Cultural Reconnection: Infuse teachings from Elders and Indigenous
leaders to foster identity and pride.
Community Healing: Provide tools for families and communities to come
together in a supportive, healing environment.
Long-Term Impact: Reduce youth suicide, substance abuse, and gang
involvement by addressing root causes through fitness, mentorship, and
education.

Sources for Advocacy

To support your sponsorship proposal, include these research-backed insights:

Suicide Rates: Suicide is the leading cause of death among First
Nations youth, with Indigenous youth rates significantly higher than
the national average in Canada and the U.S. (Centre for Suicide
Prevention, Statistics Canada)【87】【88】.
Resilience Factors: Cultural connection, community involvement, and
economic opportunities significantly lower risks (Statistics Canada,
National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health)【87】【88】.
Existing Barriers: Access to mental health services remains inadequate
in many remote and urban Indigenous communities, perpetuating cycles
of crisis.
